Ogden Area Trails
Utah Hiking
One of Ogden's greatest assets is its geographic location. The Wasatch Mountain range forms the city's east boundary. Mt. Ogden rises to 9,572 feet and dominates the east side of Ogden City. Mt. Ogden was the site of the Super G and Downhill for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The Wasatch Front has become a mountain of interest for recreation buffs, environmentalists, developers, hunters, birders, hikers, and others.
The trail system is based on a north/south trail which links several trails ascending canyons leading up the mountains. The north/south backbone of this system is the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. This section is part of a Wasatch Front interconnecting trail following the prehistoric Lake Bonneville high water mark. When completed, the trail will link several Wasatch Front communities from Brigham City in the north to Provo City in the south.

Utah Golf
Twelve golf courses with a variety of challenging terrain grace the Weber County landscape and range from easy par 3 family courses, to championship mountain venues. The variety is endless and views are spectacular. From mountain courses with outstanding vistas to easily-accessible city links, golf in the Ogden area is plentiful and affordable. Fees for nine holes are as low as eight dollars, with special rates for seniors.

Pineview Reservoir
Boating, fishing, windsurfing, water skiing, and camping are all fun activities at Pineview Reservoir.
Sandy beaches and clear blue water make this reservoir an ideal spot for the entire family. The reservoir has a variety of fish, with summer or winter-warm water fish being supreme. Small and largemouth bass, black bullhead catfish, crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, and stocked tiger muskie are caught here. Ice fishing has become one of the all time favorites in the winter months as the reservoir freezes over. Nominal boat ramp fee.

There are several options to access the lake.

  • Windsurfers beach has no fee and is open year round.
  • West side ramp is open year round, 24 hours a day. The cost is $6 to launch each vessel; if you want to park a vehicle/trailer it is an additional $2.
  • Anderson Cove campground: camping fee is $14 that includes access to
the boat launch. Hours 7 AM to 10 PM.
  • Cemetery Point boat launch is $6 a day use only. Hours: 7 AM - 10 PM. No campfires on any of the beaches.

Weber County Utah Fishing
Ogden's Kayak Rodeo Park
Located on the Weber River at Exchange Road and 24th Street, Ogden's Kayak Rodeo Park is a work in progress. It all started when Ogden City officials asked artists and architects to present concepts for urban improvements. A local artist and kayak enthusiast pushed for a kayak park. It had never been done in Utah before so no one really knew what obstacles would get in the way.

Early efforts focused on cleaning up the river and placing large boulders in strategic spots in the channel. The boulders created drops and pools in the river to make it more challenging for the kayakers. The rocks were also placed to help the fish habitat, making deep pools that become resting-places for trout and waterfalls that become "their cafeteria".

Normal water flows at the park are between 250-270 cfs. Concrete pads on the bank make launching easy. Future plans call for the addition of lights and a deck for spectator viewing. The second phase of Ogden's "Centennial Trail," currently under construction, parallels the kayak park.

Other Ogden area whitewater can be found on the Ogden River from Pineview Reservoir to Washington Blvd. With class 2-5 rapids all levels of boaters will enjoy the water. The Weber River between Mt. Green and Highway 89 also offers some extreme whitewater with the best flows April through June.
